“The greatness of a community is most accurately measured by the compassionate actions of its members.”
Coretta Scott King
As we reflect on the wise words of Coretta Scott King, we are reminded of the crucial impact your compassionate action has allowed us to have. Last year, 26,204 students received our WASH Programming, thanks to the generosity of our PoP community.
Pencils of Promise was founded on the belief that each child deserves access to quality education. In many of the communities we partner with in Ghana, Guatemala and Laos, this access is impacted by our students’ ability to access clean water and learn Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene practices.
Thanks to our incredible supporters, we have been able to provide these resources in 140 PoP schools, keeping children healthy and allowing them to miss fewer school days due to water-borne illnesses.
At PoP, our WASH program goes beyond the infrastructure of gender-separated bathrooms and hand-washing stations; it provides dignity and safety for students and encourages them to take ownership of their skills. We empower students to serve as change agents in their schools through organized WASH clubs where peers motivate one another to practice healthy behaviors.
These healthy habits begin at school, and we have witnessed students take these learnings back to their families and communities, creating a healthy society for all.
Our world has changed drastically in the past few months. The importance of sanitation and hygiene has been highlighted across the globe and the need for compassionate action has never been more clear.
Now, more than ever, WASH Programming is an essential component of safety from the virus that has impacted each of us.
Now, more than ever, we need your support.
With the compassionate action of our Pencils of Promise community, we know we can come out on the other side of this difficult time with strength and resolve.
