As a data-driven organization, we’re rigorously monitoring the effectiveness of every program, project and pilot that we implement to continuously learn and iterate on our work.
Our Programs
We design a holistic set of programs that enable public primary teachers to become more effective in the classroom and help students read with fluency and comprehension.
Teacher Support
We’re changing the way teachers are supported and trained on an ongoing basis to ensure that students are learning effectively. PoP uses innovative teaching methods and technologies such as Digital Learning and Social Emotional Learning to create engaging, child-centered learning environments in full alignment with national curricula and standards.
Water, Sanitation & Hygiene
In our WASH program, we build bathrooms, distribute water filters and educate students and communities on healthy behaviors. We believe that providing safe, clean infrastructure, coupled with knowledge on hygiene, are essential for keeping kids healthy, happy and in school.
School Builds
A safe, sound school structure is the first step to providing students with a quality learning environment and a brighter future.
Learning & Evaluation
Our Learning & Evaluation teams conduct rigorous short and long-term assessments in order to measure our impact and strengthen our programs to account for local nuances and geographic variables.

Teamwork makes our impact possible. We partner with local communities, governments and impact partners to create sustainable change in education.
Community Engagement
Pencils of Promise is a truly global organization not because we work in other countries, but because we work with them. From the onset of any project or program, we partner with communities in our efforts—with each community committing to provide up to 20% of the cost of each infrastructure project through labor and materials. We believe that this collaborative approach is key to the long-term success of our education programs, and ultimately public school teachers and their students.
Government Collaboration
We work closely with local and national governments to identify communities that align best with PoP program delivery in rural areas in Ghana, Guatemala and Laos. This approach allows us to ensure the sustainability of our programs and to continue to strengthen our work, as we keep our government partners informed of PoP’s growing impact.

Our work has to be transformational, or nothing at all. We hold ourselves to higher standards. Demanding more. Because the teachers and students who participate in our programs deserve nothing less.
