Statement From Pencils of Promise

Pencils of Promise is working towards our commitment to stand up against racial injustice. We are engaged in a long-term strategic and learning process with an independent DEI consultancy that has been conducting workshops with the leadership team and full staff in the area of diversity, equity and inclusion. One outcome is a complete revision of hiring procedures, effective immediately, incorporating best practices and proven tactics for creating more transparency, recruiting candidates from diverse pools and removing bias from all phases of the recruitment and hiring process. We are committed to diversifying our Board and have begun to do so with two new members who bring valuable perspectives to the highest level of our organization.
Pencils of Promise has officially instituted Juneteenth and Election Day as company holidays.
These are initial steps in a long journey of much-needed transformation.  We will continue to share updates on our work.
