You're Making a Difference Here
While Ghana has experienced unprecedented growth and development over the past few years (IFAD report; African Development Bank), the country still faces many challenges, especially when it comes to access to education.
In Ghana, 17% of primary school age children are not enrolled in school and of those who are in school, 28% will drop out before completing primary school (UNESCO, 2018). Additionally, over 14% of the Ghanaian population is illiterate (UNESCO, 2018).
PoP works with over 170 communities in Ghana to ensure that students overcome these and other barriers to accessing quality education. Currently, PoP is impacting over 42,000 students in Ghana through School Builds, Teacher Support and WASH programming.
With a population of around 4,200, this community is located within the Ho West district. English is spoken here.
Sunada's Impact in Amedzorfe
The Amedzorfe E.P College of Education Demonstration School is an old structure with doors and windows removed to attempt to accommodate more students. These conditions hinder learning, posing a hazard to student safety and engagement.
In the coming months, PoP will be partnering with the Amedzorfe community to build a new two-unit classroom block and teacher’s office along with repairing six existing classrooms. The community is committed to providing higher-quality education to its students and will contribute 20% of the resources and labor required for construction. We expect to break ground in September 2021 and hope to complete construction in February 2022.
The new Amedzorfe E.P College of Education Demonstration School will provide a high-quality learning environment where every student can reach their unique potential.
