Current population of Khok Savang

When our team visited the Khok Savang preschool and primary school, they found students studying in a dilapidated, provisional structure made of wood and thatch. Wooden panels showed signs of deterioration, evidenced by mold and water marks. Thatch covered the structure but it failed to thoroughly shelter students. When it rained, the straw became saturated causing water to seep in and drip down onto the ground, creating puddles on the classroom floor. Dust and other distractions such as noise from the surrounding environment easily entered the single-classroom school, making it difficult for students to concentrate. Lack of furniture left many students either sitting or standing on the dirt floor, unfocused and unable to properly learn.

Foundation Education Actions recognized these conditions and helped PoP and the Khok Savang community break ground on a new school. Teachers, parents and community members were dedicated and committed to the project, contributing up to 20 percent of resources and labor. After three months, we mounted the plaque, concluding tireless work to build a three-classroom school equipped with formal blackboards, benches, desks, doors, walls and windows. Foundation Education Actions made this school build possible, creating a safe, strong structural foundation that will allow the students in Khok Savang to learn and realize their potential and their promise.
