Chemical engineer & sports and catering teacher by day, Dawn Logan and Claire Glover have most recently embarked on a year-long cycling journey around the world. In an ambitious and inspiring effort, they’ve dedicated this long journey to Pencils of Promise—to change the lives of children through the gift of education.
Over the course of one very eventful year, Dawn and Claire will be cycling a total of almost 15,000 miles across three continents, through a whopping 25 countries. All in the name of education. For all.
PoP’s founding principle, that where you start in life should not dictate where you finish, really hit home for this purposeful pair of go-getters. After listening to The Promise of a Pencil audiobook, Claire felt an inspiration to share PoP founder Adam’s story and to further get involved with the organization.
As globe trotters and fearless travelers, both Dawn and Claire have made it their mission to spread kindness and generosity every day, in every new and unique place they visit. Through both her education and professional life, Dawn has had the opportunity to visit new and exciting places — learning about various cultures and broadening her horizons and understanding of others. For Claire, it was the memorable, inspiring and motivational teachers that she learned from as a child that made her return to education as a profession. She’s committed to going above and beyond to guide her students through life, teaching them through her profound enthusiasm and kind spirit, with the sincere hope of positively impacting their lives forever.
The pair partnered with PoP for a variety of reasons, however, two qualities about the organization that struck them were PoP’s transparency and global reach. As Claire and Dawn traverse borders and experience an incredible amount of diversity, they felt it necessary to align with an organization that truly understands this process. Plus, the engineer in Dawn values PoP’s dedication to data innovation and transparency.
Not to mention, they are firm believers in the lifetime promise that a quality education offers a child:
“If everything is taken from you, education is what we are left with to change our life circumstances. Education can open up so many doors. Education has taken Dawn from a farm girl in Scotland to an international jet setter with a valued voice in one of the biggest companies in the world.”
Claire and Dawn have proven their steadfast, unwavering commitment and passion for helping others. They are the perfect example of how the efforts of each and every individual can positively impact the world, through both small and grand gestures (i.e. cycling across the globe!).
