PoP opens its 40th School!!
It’s official - PoP is over the hill! That’s right, December 6, 2011 marked the date in which PoP inaugurated its 40th school. Students and family from all over the community came to celebrate this triumphant event at the Monte Grande School in San Ramon, Nicaragua..
What used to be a school comprised of one building with two classrooms is now two buildings with four classrooms. Before the addition, 42 students from the preschool, second and third grades had to meet across the road in a dilapidated storeroom that was constructed over 20 years ago. Now, the 110 students have enough room to all meet in the same area in buildings that are conducive to learning.
The pride and joy amongst the community was evident as children ran around, folkloric dances were showcased and nacatamals were devoured (a nacatamal is a traditional tamale-like food in Nicaragua). One little girl from the third grade had this to share with the gathered crowd:
"It’s an honor for our community to have this school to continue advancing the education of boys, girls and adolescents. We are grateful that you have cared for us and that you have blessed us with this new school."
40 is a big number for PoP.
1 is an important number for the Monte Grande community.
We celebrate the fact that PoP has a count of 40. We celebrate that the community in Nicaragua has a school to educate their count of 110. And we are eager for the New Year as PoP plans to build 10 more schools in Nicaragua! Thank you to everyone who has helped us come this far!!
